Travel to India for this winsome rags-to-riches tale of a man and his rickshaw
Rickshaw driver Amal is content with the small but vital role he serves - driving customers around bustling Delhi - though his livelihood is threatened by a new subway line. Amal doesn't know he has been chosen as sole heir to the fortune of a millionaire who has been moved by the driver's humility shortly before his death. A race against time begins to find the mysterious heir as greedy relatives attempt to get in on the inheritance.
Shot entirely in the streets of Delhi, Amal is a crowd-pleasing rags-to-riches fable not unlike last year's Slumdog Millionaire. Richly detailed, rough and colourful, New Delhi offers a thrilling backdrop to the action. With an eye for authenticity and a knack for storytelling, first time director Richie Mehta delivers a simple but heart-warming gem sure to put a spring in your step.
