BEAUTY DAY
Fri 12th August | 6:30pm | Factory Theatre

Dir: Jay Cheel, Canada, 2011, 90 min
You’ll laugh, you’ll cry… you may even be inspired to snort raw eggs through your nose.
Years before Jackass, Ralph Zavadil produced and starred in The Cap'n Video Show, spawning a small but loyal cult following in the early 90’s. Each week Ralph performed a series of idiotic, often dangerous DIY stunts, challenging the sensibilities of his small Southern Ontario, cable TV audience. Before YouTube or reality TV, his unique brand of gross-out stunt comedy was truly ahead of its time… and nearly killed him.
Ralph’s tale is equal parts heroic, hilarious, tragic and moving. Jay Cheel’s entertaining but compassionate portrait wisely refrains from judging its subject: a charismatic, articulate and very funny character not quite ready to let go of his inner child. In the tradition of Anvil! The Story of Anvil, Beauty Day is a riotous underdog story with a lot to say about fame, friendship and following one’s dreams (however bonkers).
"A wonderfully bizarre documentary that falls somewhere between Jackass and The Wrestler… oddly inspiring.” - Metro
