A moving story of solidarity and survival in the harsh Arctic
It's 1840 in the Arctic and some Inuit tribes still have never met any white people, although rumours circulate about their presence. Two elders and a young boy go to an isolated island to dry their clan's cache of fish in preparation for the long winter. The clan promises to fetch them before the water freezes over, but when they fail to appear, something appears to have gone very wrong.
Made entirely by the Arnait women's video collective and based on the novel by Danish writer Jørn Riel, Before Tomorrow is a haunting story of survival and first contact, as well as a timeless fable about the power of storytelling. With stellar performances and stunning cinematography, viewers experience the harshness of the tundra and the power of solidarity in the most trying of times.
Official Selection, Sundance Film Festival 2009
The screening will be preceded by welcome drinks and followed by a panel discussion hosted by the Centre for Canadian Australian Studies.
