We're thrilled to unveil the new poster for Possible Worlds 2010. Designed by German designer Michael Prechtl, it features artwork by acclaimed London-based Canadian artist Mark Lewis.

The central image is a still from Nathan Phillips Square, A Winters Night, Skating by Mark Lewis, a 4 minute single screen projection (35mm and 4K transferred to 2K and 35mm), courtesy and copyright the artist and Galerie Serge le Borgne, Paris.

In this video, two lovers ice skate in front of Toronto's Viljo Revell-designed City Hall. Closer examination reveals strange tricks of perspective as we realize that the skaters are out of sync with their surroundings. Mark Lewis uses rear projection and other filmmaking techniques - now rendered obsolete by digital effects - to create "a synthetic spectacle that the natural human eye could never experience."

This video will be screening as part of Possible Worlds 2010, along with two other works by the artist:TD centre, 54th Floor and Cold Morning. These works represented Canada at the 53rd Venice Biennale in 2009, and you can read The Globe And Mail's review of that show here.
