A rising star of world cinema, the 22 year-old Montreal filmmaker won the Sydney Film Prize for his film HEARTBEATS at the Sydney Film Festival, it was announced yesterday.
A semi-autobiographical story of a gay teenager and his turbulent relationship with his passive aggressive mother has drawn rave reviews around the world. "What makes it extraordinary is its depth of feeling," says the Toronto Star, "which Dolan's age makes all the more impressive: he was just 19 when he made this."
