Acclaimed Canadian producer Gerry Flahive will fly to Sydney to present his new cross-platform project Highrise and chat about transmedia production.
Gerry Flahive, a senior producer at the National Film Board, has produced over 40 films and webby award-winning new media projects, including Manufactured Landscapes (PW2007) and Waterlife (PW2009).
In Transmedia storytelling, content becomes invasive and permeates the audience's experience. A transmedia project develops storytelling across multiple platforms and media, providing many "entry points" in the story.
Highrise is a multi-year, multi-media, collaborative documentary project about the human experience in global vertical suburbs. Made up of web-documentaries, live presentations, installations and mobile projects, it uses the acclaimed interventionist and participatory approaches of the NFB’s Filmmaker-in-Residence model.

On the closing day of the Festival, Gerry will also take part in a Q&A following the Australian premiere of Invisible City, which he also produced. Set in the housing project of Toronto's Regent Park, the feature documentary follows charismatic teenagers Kendell and Mikey over three years, as they cross into adulthood.
Behind this astute, intimate portrait is a wider examination of the disconnect between urban poverty, race and the mainstream. Directed by Oscar-nominee Hubert Davis, Invisible City recently took Best Canadian Feature at the Hot Docs International Documentary Festival.
In addition to being a successful and adventurous producer, Gerry is a respected journalist, contributing regularly to The Globe and Mail. his work has been published in Time, The New York Times, The International Herald Tribune, Toronto Star, Playback, Realscreen, Montage, P.O.V. and The Los Angeles Times.
