Friday, July 22, 2025 at 3:02PM Saturday August 13th offers a special treat for Sydney’s drummers: a chance to get inspired... and then show off your own talents with a drum solo competition, following the screening of documentary A DRUMMER'S DREAM. Directed by award-winning director John Walker, the film has it only Australian screening as part of Possible Worlds.
A Drummer’s Dream features seven of the world’s best drummers as they run a week-long drumming camp for forty students on a remote farm in Ontario. While these drummers may not be household names, the musicians they’ve worked with – including Miles Davis, Dizzie Gillespie, Carlos Santana, and bands Steely Dan and Annihilator – certainly are. With Nasyr Abdul Al-Khabyyr, Dennis Chambers, Kenwood Dennard, Horacio “El-Negro” Hernadez, Giovanni Hidalgo, Mike Mangini, and Raul Rekow, A Drummer’s Dream captures the incredible passion and skill of the musicians.
Covering a range of musical styles – from latin and afro-cuban to jazz, soul and classical, to rock and speed-metal, these drummers show off their unique skills, including the super-fast hands of Official Multi Category World’s Fastest Drummer Mike Mangini. Intimate interviews reveal the stories of how each drummer achieved their dreams as well as the philosophies that back up their craft and the passion that continues to drive them.
The screening will be followed by a DRUM SOLO CONTEST with hot prizes for the best drummers. Also performing live will be Sydney band THE SCULPTURES!
